(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - A more patriotic look for Indianapolis International Airport.
Three flagpoles fly the colors on the airport grounds, but they're at the airport operations and communications center, about a quarter-mile away from where passengers arrive and depart.
The airport simultaneously marked Veterans' Day and the new terminal's first birthday by dedicating a new flagpole outside the arrival gates, where people can see it as they leave the terminal.
Flowers at the base of the pole spell out ind, the airport code.
About 25 area veterans joined an Honor Guard of airport police and firefighters for a combination dedication ceremony and salute to the veterans' service.
Together, they observed a moment of silence for the victims of last week's shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas.
The airport has nourished its connections with the military.
The first flight to land at the new terminal was a military transport.
And the terminal is named for Anderson native and World War One Flying Ace Weir Cook, who spearheaded construction of Indy's first airport in 1931.
