(UNDATED) - Indiana food banks will receive a fund-raising assist from a state official.

Feeding Indiana's Hungry, or F.I.S.H, receives $300,000 dollars a year from the state to coordinate 10 Indiana food banks.

Attorney General Greg Zoeller plans a 40-day fund drive seeking to match that through donations from businesses and other contacts.

F.I.S.H. Executive Director Emily Bryant says the recession has driven demand for food bank assistance up 30%.

Some individual food banks report unofficially their client lists have doubled.

Bryant says another $300,000 dollars would translate roughly into an additional million meals.

The organization already has deals in place with Indiana pork and dairy producers once it has the money to buy from them.

Bryant says the state appropriation approved at the end of June hasn't arrived yet.
