(UNDATED) - Unemployment is contributing to the rise in the number of Hoosiers without Health Insurance according to a report from Families USA.
The Health Care Advocacy Organization says nearly 87,000 people in Indiana became uninsured due to job cuts from January through August this year.
Ron Pollack with Families USA says most Americans get health insurance through their job or that of a family member.
He says job loss often causes people to become uninsured due to the prohibitively expensive cost of alternatives such as cobra or private insurance.
Pollack says Families USA favors a provision in health care reform for the insurance protection of Americans who switch or lose their job.
