(UNDATED) - The State Health Department has placed its first order for the nasal mist H1N1 flu vaccine. 28,700 doses are expected to arrive next week.

The vaccine will be delivered directly to Indiana's 93 local health departments and they will determine how it is distributed, based on local factors.

Additional doses will be ordered as needed on a daily basis from the federal centers for disease control.

The State Health Commissioner, Dr. Judy Monroe, says the vaccine is safe and effective.

But it is recommended only for healthy people aged 2 to 49 and it is not for pregnant women, who will be among those targeted for the injectable vaccine which may start arriving later this month.
