(SOUTH BEND) - State health officials confirm that H1N1 flu is to blame for the death of an 11-year-old South Bend girl.

Mercedes Lewis died early Tuesday less than 24 hours after symptoms first appeared.
This makes five deaths in Indiana attributed to the H1N1 strain.

The girl would have been in the target group for the new H1N1 nasal mist vaccine.

But the first shipments have just arrived. State Health Commissioner Judy Monroe says no additional precautions are being advised at the girl's school.

Dr. Monroe was already recommending that all schools encourage parents and students to remember the three c's: clean hands, cover coughs and contain this virus by staying home if you're sick.
