Police Trooper On The Other Side Of The Law

Last updated on Wednesday, October 21, 2009

(VALPARAISO, IN) - An Indiana State Police Trooper is on the other side of the law.

28-year-old Elton Jones of Valparaiso was fired from the force Tuesday after previously being arrested in the Lansing, Michigan area on weapons, armed robbery and home invasion charges.

The Lansing State Journal reports he was arrested with two other Lansing men after kicking in a door and attempting to rob a homeowner.

State Police First Sergeant Dave Bursten says officials placed Jones on administrative leave without pay Monday when they first learned about his arrest.

Bursten claims his contract was terminated Tuesday because of the serious nature of the allegations and his status as a probationary officer.

Jones was appointed to the state police in August of 2008.

He was assigned to patrol duties at the South Bend post prior to his arrest.
