(UNDATED) - New data from the college board shows tuition and fees at public and private four year schools are up again.
The board found a six percent increase at public universities and 4.4 percent at private colleges.
Kurt Supe with Indy College funding says the increase is startling amid the economic downturn.
The good news is colleges are offering more merit-based and need-based aid.
Supe says it's more important than ever for applicants to complete their financial aid homework in November and December since the financial aid season begins January first.
Supe says being at the front of the line allows extra time to appeal a financial award and ask for a bigger discount or more grant money.
