Manchester College Recieves Surprise Donation

Last updated on Tuesday, September 29, 2009

(NORTH MANCHESTER, IN) - Manchester College has received surprise donation from two sisters who attended the northern Indiana school in the 1940s.

Florence and Lucile Sanders have left the college more than $700-thousand dollars.

It's a gift that caught Manchester Vice President for College Advancement Michael Eastman off-guard.

Eastman says the sisters had actually asked Manchester to stop sending them any form of correspondence about five years ago.

The two were South Bend Elementary Echool teachers who never married or had children and eventually moved in together at a Greenwood retirement community.

Machester learned about the donation after Florence became the last sister to die at age 90.
