Regulatory Commission Being Aksed To Renew Natural Gas Discount

(UNDATED) - The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is being asked to renew a discount applied to the natural gas bills of as many as 50,000 low income Hoosiers, many of them elderly and living on fixed incomes.

The Universal Service Program expired at the end of May.

The utilities fund one-third of the cost of the program directly with the rest coming from a small surcharge to customers.

The average residential customer of citizens gas pays about 64 cents a month.
