(STATEHOUSE) - Legislators won’t move to require Alzheimer’s patients to wear electronic tracking devices.
Some police agencies had floated the possibility of electronic monitoring during this year's debate over the new "Silver Alerts" for missing adults, suggesting it might be a more effective way of locating dementia patients who wander off.
The law establishing silver alerts called for a summer study of the idea.
Senate Health Chairman Patricia Miller says it's clear from a study committee hearing that there are grave concerns over how to ensure due process before requiring someone to wear an electronic device.
