(CHESTERTON, IN) - A reported tornado ripped through the Chesterton area Wednesday night. At least 9,000 Nipsco customers were without power.
The storm hit right at the end of the National Weather Service's warning period catching many residents by surprise.
Police Sergeant Joe Christian says some people were displaced.
Many windows in the middle school were blown out and the building suffered roof damage.
There were no reports of injuries.
