Last updated on Tuesday, July 21, 2009

(INDIANAPOLIS) - On behalf of the French Government, Governor Mitch Daniels has awarded France’s Knight of the Legion of Honor Medal to a World War II veteran from Indianapolis.

It's the highest honor the French can bestow upon those who have achieved remarkable deeds for France.

As a platoon sergeant in General George S. Patton's legendary third army, Charles Kemp was one of the first dispatched to the rescue of Bastogne, the Battle of the Bulge, in which Hitler's last offensive was turned back by the allies.
