Last updated on Thursday, July 9, 2009

(INDIANAPOLIS) - An officer with the Indianapolis Police Department will be taking a train today in an effort to save lives.

The officer will be in radio contact with others pacing the train or waiting at intersections.

If he sees someone dodging a crossing, there'll be a quick stop and a citation will be issued.

In Indiana last year, there were 139 collisions involving cars, trucks and trains.

19 people were killed.
