City Police Resign After Disagreements With Mayor

Last updated on Monday, July 20, 2009

(SOUTHPORT) - Most of the Southport Police Department has resigned.

12 of the city's 14 officers quit in a dispute with the mayor.

The Police Chief disagrees with Mayor Rob Toman's plans to cut the department budget and bring in more reserve officers.

The Mayor claims the resignations would leave Southport a safer city.
