June Important For Student Achievement

Last updated on Monday, June 1, 2009

(UNDATED) - The head of the Indiana Youth Institute says the month of June is important in crafting student achievement in our state.

IYI President and CEO Bill Stanczykiewicz cites three aisles that enter the spotlight this month: the political aisle during the legislative special session, the wedding aisle with more marriages in Indiana in the month of June than any other and the graduation aisle as seniors grab their diplomas.

He says the three aisles are connected because public policy affects the Indiana Educational System, and parental involvement is just as important in helping kids complete high school.

Although the Indiana Youth Institute refrains from lobbying, Stanczykiewicz encourages Hoosiers to watch the special session since education spending is more than half of the state's total budget.
