(INDIANA STATEHOUSE) - A day after pulling the plug on a bipartisan budget subcommittee, house democrats have scheduled their own budget hearing for next Tuesday.
Democrats are sounding a more conciliatory note about where things go from here: ways and means chairman Bill Crawford (d-Indianapolis) says he'll work from a state economic forecast issued last month.
And, he says he'll reorder spending priorities, including steering 183-million dollars in stimulus money to schools.
Daniels had assigned most of that money to university construction projects, with 15-million set aside for new tech-focused high schools and training for math and science teachers.
The Governor had also proposed to use seven-million dollars for the Indiana Veterans Home, the National Guard's training facility at Muscatatuck, and the conversion of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Home into a base for the guard's Youth Challenge Academy.
