(GARY) - Gary mayor Rudy Clay had hoped to see Michael Jackson's funeral take place in the music icon's hometown.

But now, clay says he's simply hoping Jackson's body will be brought home to lie in state for several days at the genesis center, the place where Jackson's career started.

Clay says he has reached out to Jackson's father.

The patriarch of the Jackson family visited Gary's mayor at city hall last year while shooting a reality show there.
