Total Of 15 Cases of H1N1 Confirmed In Indiana

Last updated on Wednesday, May 6, 2009

(UNDATED) - Indiana has 12 new confirmed cases.

Health officials say it's clear the H1N1 flu is spreading rapidly.

There are confirmed cases in nearly every state now.

And so far, about 82 percent of all cases in this country had not traveled to Mexico or contacted anyone who did.

The virus was identified in Mexico but there is no disproportionate number of Hispanics among the known patients.

"What we know now that we didn't know last week", says Indiana's Health Commissioner, Dr. Judy Monroe, "is that this is a virus circulating widely in our communities."

And with the states, including Indiana, doing their own testing now, she says it's likely that more new cases will be confirmed soon.
