(TAMPICO) - An elderly Jackson County man was killed early Thursday morning when his house was apparently struck by lightning.

According to a report in the Seymour Tribune, 83 year old Charlie Combs of Tampico was at his home when it caught fire during the storms that rolled through the area overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.

Jackson County Corner Roger Wheeler says Combs died of smoke inhalation.

The State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the fire.
