(UNDATED) - The National Education Association has taken over its Indiana affiliate.
The Indiana State Teachers Association has been rocked by news its disability insurance trust fund has 68-million dollars in unfunded liabilities, thanks to a series of high-risk investments.
The FBI, the Indiana Department of Insurance and Secretary of State Todd Rokita are all investigating, and Executive Director Warren Williams has stepped down.
The ISTA board voted to ask the national union to intervene.
The NEA has named the former executive director of its Massachusetts union to run things, and has placed a planned transfer of the health insurance business on hold while it reviews the proposal.
About 100 Indiana school districts rely on the ISTA for disability insurance. 30 more use the union's health plan.
