Indiana Plant Producing Natural Gas Powered Car

Last updated on Tuesday, May 26, 2009

(GREENSBURG) - The Hoosier Honda Plant in Greensburg is churning out Civics fueled by natural gas.

Honda Manufacturing of Indiana Vice President Rick Schostek says the Civic GX costs about $25,000, but comes with a $4,000 tax credit.

The car is touted by the American Council for Energy Efficient Economy as "America's greenest car."

The vehicle was first introduced by Honda in 1998.

It gets 24 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.

Schostek says the natural gas version of the vehicle looks the same as the other civics.

Schostek hopes one day consumers will be able to fill the natural gas tanks on the cars at their home.
