(FORT WAYNE) - One Fort Wayne City Council member is calling on city police officers to stop an apparent ticket writing slowdown.
Police Chief Rusty York acknowledges there has been a significant drop-off in the number of citations issued by patrol officers in 2009.
York believes it stems from the police union's dissatisfaction with a policy change on take-home squad cars, in which officers were asked to pay part of their off duty gasoline expenses.
Republican City Council member Tom Didier says police officers need to set aside hurt feelings and do their jobs.
The local police officer's union has not commented thus far.
