Brown Recluse Bite May Be Cause Of Man's Death

Last updated on Wednesday, May 27, 2009

(EVANSVILLE) - An Evansville man has died from an apparent spider bite.

The Vanderburgh county coroner says 42-year-old Keith Reed was found dead Monday with a bite on his leg consistent with that of a brown recluse spider.

Reed had reportedly been camping in the last couple weeks, telling his wife later that he believed he had been bitten by something.

Brown recluse bites can be deadly.

However, they can be treated if sufferers seek medical help immediately.

Brown recluses are generally light brown with a darker design on their back that looks like a violin or guitar.

With their legs fully extended, they are typically the size of a quarter.
