Tyson Donates 15 Tons Of Meat To Gleaners

Last updated on Thursday, April 30, 2009

(UNDATED) - Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana received a generous donation of protein from Tyson Foods.

Gleaners Director Pam Altmeyer says the meat producer delivered 15 tons of chicken, ham, and other pork products to the food bank to be shared with over 400 pantries in 20 Central Indiana counties.

Altmeyer says the donation was the result of an online contest where people all over the country were encouraged to pledge their support to end hunger.

As a state, Indiana won the contest and Indianapolis was selected to be the delivery point with Gleaners as the recipient.

Altmeyer says the donation comes at a perfect time when more people are finding themselves in the pantry line as they struggle to make ends meet in this trying economy.
