Officials Trying To Find How Notre Dame Student Got Swine Flu

Last updated on Wednesday, April 29, 2009

(SOUTH BEND) - A Notre Dame student is recovering from the swine flu.

Indiana Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Rachel Meyer says health officials are still trying to determine how the person contracted the illness. The student had not recently been to Mexico.

She says other Hoosiers should be concerned, not alarmed. The Indiana State Department of Health is encouraging residents to follow all normal precautions to avoid the flu, including hand washing and covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough.

There have been no other confirmed cases in Indiana. A toll-free hotline has been set up for questions on the swine flu.

The number is (877) 826-0011 and will be open from 8:00am-4:45pm Monday through Friday.
