New Scam Targets Hoosiers Directly

Last updated on Monday, April 20, 2009

(UNDATED) - Surprise, surprise, another scam, and this one targeted directly at Hoosiers.

The Indiana State Police are reporting callers claiming to be from the Indiana Gaming Commission are informing victims they have won a large grand prize in a sweepstakes that...doesn't exist.

The scam part?

Well, of course, you have to send $2,000 to cover insurance and fees, et cetera.

Indiana Gaming Commission Executive Director Ernest Yeltson says the Indiana Gaming Commission is a regulatory body and does not conduct sweepstakes in the first place.

On top of that, any legitimate sweepstakes or other prize-based contest would never ask you,/i> to send them money.

That defeats the purpose.
