Man Convicted On Three Counts Of Murder By Arson

Last updated on Saturday, March 28, 2009

(HAMMOND)- A Hammond man could be sentenced to 155 years in prison after being convicted of three counts of murder by arson.

Jurors agreed with prosecutors that 35-year-old Steven Allen set fires that killed his wife, baby and a neighbor in July 2005.

Allen had claimed his wife Christy died shortly after entering their burning apartment to rescue their two-month-old daughter - before succumbing to smoke inhalation.

However, state fire experts said gasoline had been trailed through out the unit.

Allen's sentencing is scheduled for May 14.
