Katie McCoy Murder Trial Underway

Last updated on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

(LOUISVILLE) - Opening statements will be made today in the Katie McCoy murder trial.

The former Bellarmine University student and Indiana native is accused of killing her newborn daughter in her dorm room in 2007.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys began selecting a jury Monday in a trial that is expected to last about two weeks.

Investigators say McCoy, who was 19 at the time and a member of the Bellarmine women's golf team, hid her pregnancy from family and friends. McCoy is accused of allowing the baby to fall into a toilet, causing her death.
