Ireland, Indiana Ready For St. Patrick Day Celebrations

Last updated on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

(IRELAND) - Ireland, Indiana is the place to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day the weekend before the holiday.

The small town in Dubois County was actually founded by John Stuart, a Scot-Irish immigrant who became a veteran of the war of 1812 and settled in an area close to an place known as the Irish Settlement, home to many Presbyterian Irish immigrants.

Ireland Historical Society President Delbert Himsel is a descendant of Stuart and says John's son, James, donated part of his father's land to officially create the town of Ireland.
