(EVANSVILLE) - Power is being restored in southwestern indiana, slowly, but surely.

Vectren Spokeswoman Chase Kelly reports 13,000 now without power as a result of last week's winter storm.

Roughly 1,000 crews are working 16-hour shifts to get homes back on-line; and between 8 to 9,000 people were checked on through a door-to-door campaign with the Red Cross called "Neighbor to Neighbor," in an effort to make sure that everyone either was ok, had help, or could get help if they needed it.

The majority of homes still in the dark should be back on by Thursday, with scattered outlying outages lasting into the weekend.

Kelly says if the box or weatherhead are damaged, it is the customer's responsibility to get it fixed, and an electrician should be called out immediately. The "weatherhead" involves a plastic or metal conduit that goes into the meter box on homes.
