Three Die In 31-Car Pileup Tuesday

Last updated on Wednesday, February 4, 2009

(NOBLESVILLE) - Two Anderson men and one other person were killed in the 31-vehicle pileup on I-69 near Noblesville Tuesday morning.

27-year old Dustin Goettman and 28-year old Ryan Phillips along with an unidentified person died south of the Verizon Wireless Music Center exit. Indiana State Police Sgt. Mike Burns says Goettman and Phillips were together in a vehicle that was struck by at least two semis. The unidentified driver was in an SUV.

A total of eleven people were taken to area hospitals. A Fishers fire truck was responding to the scene of an inverted vehicle and was rear ended by another vehicle, which led to the massive pileup.

The preliminary cause of the crash is attributed to driving too fast for the whiteout conditions. All lanes of I-69 reopened at 9:45pm.

State Police reconstructionists will meet at the site on Wednesday to further investigate.
