Indy Realtors, Builders, Like What They See In Housing Recovery Proposal

Last updated on Thursday, February 19, 2009

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Hundreds of community leaders, home builders and realtors met Wednesday in Indianapolis to discuss opportunities for the region during the annual Central Indiana Housing Summit.

Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors President Larry Mitchell says he likes the $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers in the economic stimulus plan.

But he says he's more excited about the number of jobs that will be created in the state by the infusion of federal money.

Beyond that, Mibor CEO Steve Sullivan says they didn't have enough details about the economic stimulus plan to include it in their meetings. Sullivan says their sessions focused on the opportunities presented by green building practices, mass transit and government consolidation.

He predicts Central Indiana and parts of the Midwest will be among the first to experience the economic turnaround when it comes.
