Couple Makes Meth Next To School

(INDIANAPOLIS) - 39-year-old Lamar Taylor and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Tiffany Collette, have been charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and the charge is elevated to a class a felony because of the proximity of a school.

That school is across the street from the apartment building where they lived until the structure was gutted by a fire.

Investigators say the couple was cooking meth when it ignited.

Taylor burned his hands trying to put it out.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Marion county prosecutor Carl Brizzi says it's the first case he can recall in which a meth lab was found in an urban area.

The process creates a foul smell which leads meth makers to ply their illicit trade in more remote locations.

He's not taking the case as evidence of a trend, however.

Meth has been on the decline recently and cocaine remains the more common threat.
