(GARY) - The number of homicides in the northwestern Indiana city of Gary fell significantly in 2008.
A report recently released by the Post-Tribune shows that Gary recorded 51 homicides last year -- down 28 percent from the 71 recorded during 2008.
Still the rate of just over 50 homicides per 100,000 residents ranks only below New Orleans' 54.7 last year.
The report cites available public records through December 30th.
