Doctor: Ringing In The New Year Can Be Depressing

Last updated on Friday, January 2, 2009

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Ringing in a new year is a positive sign for some, but can be a sign of depression for others.

Indianapolis Clinical Psychologist Dr. Greg Sipes says most people will talk about the things they plan to do in the coming year, but those who are depressed have amore pessimistic attitude and don't look toward the future.

Sipes says depression can manifest itself in physical symptoms such as lack of sleep, lack of appetite, lethargy, and lack of energy.

Dr. Sipes says everyone goes through small bouts of depression when certain things in life happen, but prolonged symptoms are cause for concern.
