(STATEHOUSE) - More than 300 American Cancer Society staffers and volunteers from across Indiana flooded the statehouse Tuesday to lobby for one bill to help cancer patients, and a second to reduce cancer cases.

The group is backing Representative Charlie Brown's (D-Gary) bill to ban smoking in all public places in Indiana. And the society hopes to persuade legislators to back a bill guaranteeing insurance coverage for oncologist visits and other routine care for cancer patients in clinical trials.

Currently, medical expenses which would be covered for patients undergoing chemotherapy or other already-approved cancer treatments can be denied for patients in trials.
