(PORTER COUNTY) - Authorities say two people died in a pileup involving at least 25 vehicles on the westbound side of the Indiana Toll Road in Porter County this morning.

State police say 69-year-old John Liefbroer of Chesterton died at Porter Hospital.

Another person died in his vehicle at the scene, but police aren't releasing the name until relatives have been notified.

The pileup occurred around 10:30am due to icy road conditions west of the U.S. 49 exit.

State police say driving conditions in northwest Indiana remain hazardous.

Snow in the area are expected to taper off this evening.
