(UNDATED) - Hoosiers are paying an average of $1.68 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline according to the weekly AAA Gas Gauge Report.

That compares with $2.99 a year ago. Price skirmishes among neighboring gas stations in LaPorte drove the price down to $1.19 for a while on Wednesday.

The U.S. Energy Department is predicting an average gasoline price of $2.03 in 2009.
