As Ice Develops, Emergency Room Visits Increase

Last updated on Friday, December 26, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The icy grip of winter can mean serious injuries for some Hoosiers.

Doctors say emergency room visits are up this time of year because of ice-related falls.

Indianapolis' Wishard Hospital emergency room doctor, Dan O'Donnel says knee, ankle and wrist injuries and hip fractures with the elderly are the common type of injuries.

He says be aware and take things slow and know what you're stepping on to. If you fall, have your cell phone handy so you can call for help if you can't help yourself.
