(EVANSVILLE) - If you have a few extra dollars on you, you can begin tossing them in those Salvation Army red kettles soon.
Friday was the official kick-off the annual red kettle campaign in Evansville.
The Salvation Army's Captain Harold Poff says the goal this year is to raise 210-thousand-dollars to help local needy families have a merrier Christmas.
But Poff says he has a lingering problem again this year, not enough volunteer bell ringers.
Poff says if anyone or any groups would like to volunteer to be bell ringers, there is still time.
The money raised between now and Christmas Eve will help more than 900 needy families have toys for children under 17 and food for Christmas dinner.
Poff expects the state of the economy will make the need even greater this year.
