(UNDATED) - State police have been very busy investigating crashes and slide-offs.

Light snow caused bridges, under passes, exit and entrance ramps on I-69 in East Central Indiana to freeze, creating hazardous road conditions for motorists.

Troopers at the Redkey District investigated 6 slide-offs, 7 property damage crashes, and 4 minor personal injury crashes on I-69 in Delaware and Grant Counties.

Lake-effect snow and ice caused havoc on roads in Northwest Indiana. Nearly 20 vehicle crashes caused police to close a stretch of Interstate 94 between Portage and Michigan City on Monday night. State police were called to an accident last night involving 11 vehicles, including two semi trailers, on eastbound I-94 near Chesterton.

Weather spotters reported around 4 inches of snow on the ground in Chesterton. There were 17 other crashes, including one involving multiple vehicles.

Police said the interstate was like "a solid sheet of ice" from Portage to Michigan City.
