Hoosier Hands Needed To Help Flood Victims

Last updated on Friday, November 7, 2008

(MARTINSVILLE) - The June floods impacted more than 2,700 households in Morgan County. Still today, several months later there are over 500 homes that need significant repairs to get families back into them.

Hoosier volunteers are needed to help these families. While there is still some debris removal to be done, most homes need skilled or semi-skilled help. Anyone skilled in home repair or electrical, plumbing, HVAC, insulation, carpentry, drywall hanging, drywall finishing or painting can help.

David Siler with Catholic Charities and Families Ministries for the Indianapolis archdioceses, says many families received FEMA assistance. However, those funds can only go so much.

Materials can be purchased with the money, but homeowners can't afford the labor costs. Siler says these Hoosiers are in desperate need and everyone needs to pull together to help.
