(UNDATED) - Indiana will lose at least half its remaining township assessors.

Voters in 22 counties had referenda on whether to turn over assessment duties to county assessors. 23 of the 43 townships affected have voted to abolish the township offices, including all eight in Marion County.

Lake County voters appear to have retained five of their six township assessors, while one of three survived in Allen County.

Howard County also voted to keep its lone township assessor.

The outcome in Madison County was too close to call.
