BMV Pushing More Deadlines, Online Business To Shorten Lines At Branches

Last updated on Friday, November 7, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is adding more renewal dates next year in an effort to make branches less crowded.

BMV Commissioner Ron Stiver says expanding the number of deadline dates from 19 to 45 will further reduce wait times by spreading out the number of motorists who make that "last minute rush" to their branch.

Average branch visit times are now about 8.5 minutes. The BMV wants to lower that number by continuing to offer a $5 discount for online registration renewals through 2009.

Stiver says 1.3 million online customers saved more than $6 million by going online.
