Mammogram Numbers Down, Notes Cancer Society

Last updated on Wednesday, October 1, 2008

(UNDATED) - Many Hoosier women are still not getting screened for breast cancer.

The American Cancer Society says mammography rates in Indiana increased from 2004 to 2006, however, overall rates are down from 2000. Yearly mammograms are recommended for women beginning at age 40.

The Cancer Society's Vicki Rakowski says free mammograms are available for women who have no insurance or limited coverage.
