Library Tours Offer Possible Grey Lady Ghost Sighting

Last updated on Tuesday, October 28, 2008

(EVANSVILLE) - It’s almost Halloween and that means the annual Grey Lady Ghost Tours at Willard Library in Evansville are underway.

The tours are led by library staff to see if the famous Grey Lady ghost appears.

Director Greg Hager says they take you through the library to places where the Grey Lady has appeared before. The Grey Lady was first spotted by a maintenance man in 1937 and has been seen many times since.

Hager says some speculate it's the ghost of Louise Carpenter. Her father left most of his money in his will to Williard Library and it's believed because of that, she holds a grudge against the library and is haunting it.

The tours are free but you need to register by calling 425-4309 or going on line at williard.lib.in.us
