(UNDATED) - A new drug is becoming popular with teens and young adults, its called salvia.

Its an herb that causes hallucinations if its ingested or smoked.

Community Health Network Case Manager Mike Ferris says the drugs effects are similar to LSD, but the difference is they don't last as long.

Ferris says the drug is cheap, easy to get and is legal. Ferris adds that the DEA is looking at classifying salvia as a schedule 1 controlled substance, like LSD and marijuana.

The drug hit the scene in the early 90's, but just recently has become widely popular.

Ferris says salvia can be addictive and treatment is often needed.
