Last updated on Monday, October 13, 2008

(MACKEY) - Two people were injured in a methane gas explosion at a surface mine in Gibson County on Saturday afternoon.

Fire department officials say the pair hit a pocket of the gas while working some coal out of the mine, creating a flash fire.

Both men were hospitalized, but their identities and condition have not been released.

The mine is owned by Peabody Coal.
