Carmel Police Dismantle Prostitution Ring

Last updated on Thursday, October 16, 2008

(CARMEL) - Hamilton County officials dismantled a prostitution ring.

Carmel Police Major Lee Goodman says the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force received information on a supposed massage parlor really being a front for prostitution.

An undercover sting and search warrant was conducted and police arrested two women in the investigation.

The business's owner, 56-year-old Rebecca Davis, was arrested for C Felony promoting prostitution, while 36-year-old Kristina Mayhugh of Greenfield, was charged with misdemeanor prostitution.

Goodman says the ordinance the Carmel City Council passed requiring licenses for massage parlors with certified massage therapists helped reduce the number of prostitution fronts.

Goodman says he has found those illegal businesses often relocate to other communities that have no such ordinance in place.
