(UNDATED) - State leaders are asking Hoosiers this week to take steps to prepare for an emergency.
To mark Indiana Preparedness Week, the state department of homeland security is urging residents to take four proactive steps: make a plan, get a kit, be informed, and get involved.
IDHS Spokesman John Erickson says families need to be ready for everything from a terrorist attack to a natural disaster. Erickson says the recent storm damage in Indiana shows the need for emergency plans.
Since late spring, there have been more than 17,000 storm victims in Indiana who have applied for federal assistance. For more information on emergency preparedness, you can log onto www.statehealth.in.gov.
